Overview:
We live in times where so much evil and corruption is marketed to the youth of our nation. Nothing good is expected from this young generation. They’re just expected to be mp3, X-box playing, internet junkies. The statistics of teen pregnancy, morality, sexual behavior, suicide, violence is quite astounding. And yet the world had no answers. Our society does not expect much at all from this new generation of youths.
And yet God is calling out these young people to be His “chosen generation.” We, here at Cornerstone Ministries, believe that God has an awesome plan for the young people of today. We’ve seen it in the past with the Jesus People Movement, and we believe that God will use the young people of today to do a great work.
To best meet the needs of our youth, we have 2 separate ministries aimed at serving the next generation of the church.
Revolution180 is the High School ministry (9th – 12th grade).
What does the name mean?
When John the Baptist was imprisoned, he heard the about the things Jesus was doing, and so he sent his disciples out to check it out. Jesus told John’s disciples to go and tell John…to report back…what they hear and see:
Matthew 11:5 says “The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.” (NKJV)
Revolution is a movement, a complete uprising or cycle of events that brings about a decisive overthrow, reformation or radical change, be it social, moral, spiritual, political, ideological or philosophical.
180 symbolizes a complete turn around.
That’s exactly what was going on in
Matthew 11. On the individual level, lives were being completely changed. As lives were being changed, families, towns and cities were being changed….all because of Jesus!!!
That’s what we desire for our High school students…to be changed by Jesus so much so that their families, their friends and teachers at school are affected by Jesus in their lives!
JesusFreaks is the Junior High ministry (6th – 8th grade).
Why JesusFreaks?
Hang out with and talk to any Junior High aged student for some time, and you find that they are absolutely crazy about something. Whether it’s boy crazy, girl crazy, a certain band or music celebrity, and actress or actor, a TV show, a hobby or sport, clothes, etc.
Simply put, we want the Junior High kids to be crazy about their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Paul said it in
1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I determined to not know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” (NKJV)
Then in
Philippians 3:8 “Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I may have Christ” (NLT)
It’s our prayer that our Junior High Students will truly count all things as garbage, compared to knowing and having Jesus!
What do we do?
We spend time worshipping the Lord. You’ll find during our meetings that many of our students really enjoy worshipping the Lord. It’s all about connecting with the Lord…
We believe in the importance of teaching through the Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, giving the whole counsel of God, in a way that is relevant, understandable, and applicable to the youth. We are currently going through the book of Romans on Sundays, and Genesis for the midweek study.
We love to just hang out. We like to spend time touching base with the students to see how they are doing. It’s usually a great time to encourage and pray for the students. We promote fellowship in the Biblical sense of building each other up in the Lord, celebrating our oneness in Jesus.
We encourage students to serve the Lord. Many of our students are actively involved in our church. Some help with the kids ministry. Many go on our missions trips.
We have lots of fun! We have lots of activities and events to bless the youth.
